for this week's reading task we were asked to plan out our research method for our chosen topic for the book.

The topic I chose to cover for the book is 'The role nostalgia plays in games'.

To start off the research process I chose to read some online articles on what makes gamers nostalgic about video games and what exactly gives them that sense of nostalgia, could it be a character, the story or a certain location within that game?

According to this article here : https://www.kotaku.com.au/2019/02/why-nostalgia-for-video-games-is-uniquely-powerful, it is believed that games give off that sense of nostalgia because it acts as a reminder of a carefree past where people were only starting to discover who they were themselves.

The reason why games give off more nostalgia is because the player involves themselves into the world of said game fully becoming accustomed to the world and characters.

This article linked above also talks about how nostalgia can also link to negative effects of things and in the case of a video game it might be hating a certain character, location or boss fight.

Finally, this last article https://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2015/11/nostalgia-video-games/416751/, talks about how nostalgia can ruin games in the sense that, while trying to capture that same feeling of glory, video game developers and publishers refuse to move away from the beloved franchises of old and sucking them dry of any innovation which can lead to redundancy and ruining a franchise for a lot of people and leading them to stop playing games from that franchise.
