Introduction: ‘No Rest for the Wicked’ is an arcade inspired First-Person Shooter set in downtown Los Angeles in which retired sniper Corey Thompson is asked to come out of retirement for one last mission to stop a terrorist group. The game will be played on PC and created in Unity but will have many of the mechanics of a classic arcade shooter from the mid-80s and 90s. The game will be solely single player, but co-op could be introduced at some point to keep in line with the old arcade inspired gameplay seeing how most arcades did have the option for two players taking on challenges together.

Description: In this game you will be thrusted into the shoes of ex-sniper Corey Thompson along with his trusty Remington-700 sniper rifle to take out incoming enemies and save civilians. You as the player are tasked with eliminating terrorists that have infiltrated and attacked downtown LA, taking them out from a distance.

The enemies’ movement pattern will be erratic so you will have to calculate your shots with extreme precision to take out the target. Also, you will need to be careful as some enemies will be taking civilians hostage and you must be extra precise with your shots to save them.

You as the player will have three lives, you can lose lives by getting shot by incoming enemies, but damage is avoidable by ducking behind cover. Lives are replenishable by saving civilians, to replenish a lost life, you will need to save a civilian that will drop a heart-shaped power-up that will restore that lost life.

When your lives reach zero you will lose the mission and will have to start again and try to beat your high score.

Key features: The key features of this game are.

·        Cover- to avoid incoming damage the player can hide behind cover

·        Lives- lives will be what keeps you going through the game but these can also be depleted by taking damage so the player must be cautious to not lose all their lives

·        Citizens- the enemies in the game will take citizens as hostages, you as the player are tasked with saving them and by doing so you can replenish any lost lives

Genre: As mentioned above, this game will be a First-Person Shooter, however, despite being an FPS it will be nothing like the big AAA games out on the market right now. This game is heavily inspired by the old arcade shooters like ‘Time Crisis’ and will aspire to bring that classic feel back up to some more modern standards. As mentioned, the game is heavily inspired by ‘Time Crisis’ but it is also taking inspiration from the Third-Person Shooter ‘Gears of War’, mainly when talking about the cover mechanic present in this game.

I am choosing to create a game such as this as I feel like a lot of FPS games on the market right now are pretty like each other, taking the safe route and not innovating the genre. While I am not attempting to say the game I will create will be a new innovation on the market as a game like this has been created before, it has not been done in a very long time so I want to bring that sort of feeling of old school games back by creating this seemingly simple game that can offer replay ability by encouraging the player to always have another try at beating their high score which some other games in the genre do not offer anymore. For example, ‘Call of Duty’s’ single player campaign is meant to be played once with no reason to replay it again once you have beaten it and I would like to differentiate myself from a game like that and offer replay ability for everyone.

Platform(s): The main platform this game will be available on is PC as the game is created in ‘Unity’. A port to console for a game such as this would not work and would take away from the main experience of the game. Multiplayer will not be available in this game as it is meant to be a single player experience, but co-op might be possible later.

Resources: For the assets of the game, I intend to use the Unity Asset Store to get the most of my assets while also trying to create some of my own. An asset I would love to use for my game is this realistic sniper rifle gun asset that I found for free in the Unity Asset Store. (https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/props/weapons/m40a3-sniper-rifle-107756).

This gun is perfect for the kind of gun I want to have in my game and has that realistic look to it which I really like.
